JAMAR COMPANY HAS BEEN AWARDED A MAJOR RETROFIT AND MAINTENANCE CONTRACT AT ALLIANT ENERGY'S COLUMBIA AND EDGEWATER GENERATING STATIONS IN WISCONSIN

Jamar Company has been awarded a major retrofit and maintenance contract at Alliant Energy's Columbia and Edgewater coal powered generating stations in Wisconsin. Alliant Energy Corporation is an energy holding company involved in delivering electric and natural gas related products and services to customers in the Midwest.

Columbia Unit 2
Jamar will be replacing a 27 year old reheater during a 7-week major overhaul on Columbia Unit 2.

The process of replacing the reheater involves cutting the tubes free from the inlet and outlet headers in the boiler. Front pendants will be lowered through the furnace and removed through a large opening cut in the furnace water wall at the turbine deck. After all the old pendants are removed, the new pendants will be transported to the furnace via a monorail through the same opening and hoisted approximately 150 feet into place. Each pendent will be aligned and secured in preparation for final welding.

Typical Orbital Tube Weld
Due to the number of welds required in the reheat replacement, orbital welding will be utilized. In orbital welding the arc from the welder is rotated around the tubing weld joint. The arc welding current is regulated with a control system thus, automating the entire process. The result is a more precise and reliable method than manual welding.

Jamar will also install a new low NOx air system and replace the ID (Induced Draft), FD (Forced Draft) and air heater outlet dampers. These regulate the massive flow of air through the boiler. Air heater dampers regulate airflow to the air heater. Jamar will also perform normal annual maintenance on the unit.

Columbia Unit 1
Jamar will perform normal annual maintenance along with a major soot blower modification for Diamond Power International's Columbia Unit 1.

During the three week outage Jamar will remove the existing soot blowers and piping, modify valve station platforms and install 84 new soot blowers along with new steam and thermal drain piping. Due to the short outage window, Jamar will utilize pre-fabricated piping where possible.

Alliant Energy Edgewater Generating Station
Edgewater Units 4 & 5
Jamar will perform normal annual maintenance on Edgewater Units 4 and 5 in three separate outages which will take place in the Spring and Fall of 2005.

Jamar will also perform a reheat retrofit, installing a new reheater in an existing boiler that did not previously have a reheater. The retrofit includes 65 new outlet elements.
