ALLIANT ENERGY
COLUMBIA GENERATING STATION - PORTAGE WISCONSIN
The Green Bay
office has recently completed a major boiler project at
Alliant's Columbia power plant. This multi-million dollar
retrofit of unit 1 includes the economizer, final superheat
elements, division panels, pendent platens, fan dampers,
precipitator wires and annual boiler maintenance. The
boiler team mobilized for pre-outage work in early December,
with the 7 week outage scheduled to begin in mid-January.
Ed Plucker and his staff received a certificate of appreciation
for their outstanding safety performance during the outage
that resulted in zero lost time injuries while meeting
outage technical, schedule and budget objectives. According
to Mike McParlan, President of Jamar, this was an extraordinary
accomplishment due to the complexity of the project. |

The
outage required a 7/10 work week with manpower peaking
at approximately
150. This project followed several
major retrofits for Alliant since the opening of the Green
Bay office in 2003. It further solidified Jamar as a major
boiler contractor in the upper-Midwest, competing against
the largest boiler companies in the United States. This
is all made possible by the commitment and efforts of the
APi Group, Jamar's Senior Management, the boiler and piping
teams, safety and QA/QC departments and all those that
support the Green Bay office.
