Being a specialty construction company, we’ve had many proud moments over the last 103 years. Today, we get to tell you about one of those moments.
We were recently notified that we are the recipients of APi Group’s 2016 Bob Nelson Community Service Award. It’s an award we’ve very proud of for numerous reasons. We care about our employees, our community, and its future. We feel fortunate for our success and want to give back to the community that’s been so good to us. Giving is a culture that we strive to preserve at Jamar.
Companies were evaluated and the award was given for two reasons: company community involvement and employee community involvement.
As a company, we donate to many organizations within our community, both large and small. These organizations may come from and employee request, a client initiative, or they align with our company goals. We proudly supported 147 organizations financially in 2015. Giving back is at the core of why Jamar exists. As a company, we make it a priority to support our community both financially and with sponsored volunteer hours. We sponsor things such as helping replace the roof of the Damiano Center, the Boy Scouts Classic Golf Tournament, CASDA, blood drives, United Way fundraisers, Boys and Girls Club events, Dragon Boat festival, Rotary Club, Courage Kenny Rehabilitiation Institute, Duluth Heritage Foundation, GEAPS, Lake Superior Zoological Foundation and more.
While we’re proud of what we do as a company, we’re amazed at what we do as individuals. We have so many great people who make up the Jamar family. They donate thousands of hours annually, outside of Jamar sponsored causes and events, to support and strengthen the community we work and live in.
One such employee is one of our Assistant Project Managers, Rose Misiewicz. Rose has been the assistant coach of the International USA Sled (Sledge) Hockey team for over 7 years. This is completely volunteer, privately funded position that coaches individuals with spinal cord injuries including wounded warriors.
Our employees are personally involved in dozens of volunteer organizations donating thousands of hours every year. They’re involved in things such as Second Harvest Food Bank, local animal shelters, coaching sports and youth leagues, local churches, Superior Youth Organization, Girl Scouts, Human Development Center, Diabetes Foundation, Woodland Hills, mentorship programs, Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Campaigns for military members, and more.
We are community builders. It’s at the core of who we are as individuals and collectively as a company. From the very beginning we’ve had a culture of community service and support. We’ll continue to strive to leave a positive mark on our community.
