History of The Jamar Company
A Rich History
In 1906, Walker Jamar Sr. arrived in Duluth with not much more than the drive and desire to build his own American success story. He found work as a timekeeper at A.H. Krieger Company, an insulation and pipe-covering firm. Walker quickly honed his business skills and bought A.H. Krieger for $500 in 1913 changing the name to Walker Jamar Company. It was again renamed to The Jamar Company in the early 1970’s under the leadership of Walker’s two sons.
APi Group, Inc., a St. Paul-based private holding company, brought us into the fold in 1985. Since then, Jamar has enhanced its capabilities with several strategic acquisitions including Asdco Distribution and Arrowhead Refrigeration, and the opening of different operations throughout the Midwest.
Through it all, we stayed true to our founder. A vibrant entrepreneurial spirit still prevails at The Jamar Company, which continues to keep pace with changing markets while embracing a commitment to superior craftsmanship and strong company values established more than a century ago.
